Presenting the Original Idea on Regional Development

It is the nation-building strategy of the Workers' Party of Korea and its idea on regional development to make the regional development represent the advance and development of our state and make the ideal aspect of the regions symbolize the development of Korean-style socialism.
Doctor Ri Yong Chol, Section Chief of the Academy of Social Sciences, said the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK, decided to accomplish an epoch-making great work of transforming the cities and counties across the country into socialist utopias and put forth the idea on regional development, and continued:
"Since the emergence of the words of region and countryside in human history, they were always synonyms for poverty and backwardness, and the difference between the capital city and provinces and the underdeveloped character of the rural communities compared with cities are considered to be a difficult problem, unavoidable and unsolvable even in those countries with tremendous economic strength.
The WPK regards it as its greatest desire to eliminate the century-old backwardness of the rural communities and the underdeveloped character of the regions as early as possible and make all people enjoy an affluent and civilized life. That is why it made a great decision to accomplish the great historic cause at any cost."

The "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" of the WPK was clarified at the Tenth Session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in January 2024.
The WPK presented the regional development policy on building modern regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties every year within 10 years in parallel with the construction of modern public health facilities, leisure complexes and grain management facilities, and is persistently pushing ahead with them.

Comrade Kim Jong Un presented a rural revolution programme in the new era at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee in December 2021, and is wisely leading the struggle for its implementation.
As his original idea on regional development has been applied, tens of regional-industry factories were built in different parts of the country, and people benefit from the hospitals and leisure complexes built in a number of counties including Kangdong County. Modern rural houses have been built like mushrooms after rain and public and production buildings becoming to the socialist ideal villages are under construction.

While giving field guidance to the Kangdong County Hospital and Leisure Complex under construction in June 2025, Comrade Kim Jong Un said there cannot be change in our Party's regional development policy for the people and that we should accelerate the regional construction with great rapidity until we put up the flag of victory in the 200th county of the country.
It is a firm will of Comrade Kim Jong Un to make all regions develop comprehensively without differences between the capital city and provinces and between towns and the countryside and make all people lead an abundant and civilized life in the near future.
The Korean people are accelerating the overall national rejuvenation true to his idea on regional development.
