Makkoli, a Traditional Drink of Korea
Porridge made of malt and polished rice is fermented and it will be divided into two parts--clear in the upper part and cloudy in the lower part. These two parts were not racked off and hence the name.
Makkoli is one of the products of the Samilpho Specialities Factory which was well-known to the Korean people for different kinds of special foodstuffs.
One day in February 2012 the respected ComradeKim Jong Un visited the factory. At that time an official of the factory proudly said the factory is producing thousands of bottles of makkoli a day and it is popular among the Pyongyang citizens.
After hearing him with pleasure,Kim Jong Un picked up a bottle of makkoli and opened it.
An official quietly asked him not to drink it as the weather is cold.
Giving him mild scolding, however,Kim Jong Un said he would taste it.
After tasting it, he said everybody will like makkoli as it is sour yet refreshing and it seems to have a lot of sugar content and called for improving its quality in the future so that it could be a favorite food of the people.
He is always concerned to improve the people's living.
More and more people enjoy drinking the unique makkoli.
