Castle-Defending System of Koguryo
Koguryo is the first feudal state of Korea that existed between 277 B.C. and A.D. 668.
It was able to defend its dignity as a powerful country in the East for 1,000 years, which is unthinkable apart from its powerful military might.
Koguryo with a lot of mountainous areas and comparatively limited population established a castle-defending system under which several fortresses defended in close contact.
Here is Kim Chang Ho, Section Chief of the Archaeological Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences.
"The castle-defending system of Koguryo consisted of the systems of defending the frontline, the depth and the capital. This system fully demonstrated its might in the struggle of Koguryo people against foreign invasion. Historical facts clearly prove that the castle-defending system of Koguryo played a crucial role in strengthening the defence capability of the country."

Koguryo built numerous castle-defending establishments such as hill-fort, flatland wall and long wall at important districts and strategic points throughout the country.
And it supplied necessary army provisions, weapons and equipment in time on the basis of its developed economy.
All this goes to prove that the military system of Koguryo was well organized at that time.
