The 13th World Festival of Youth and Students was held in Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK, between June 1 and 8, 1989 under the slogan "For Anti-Imperialist Solidarity, Peace and Friendship!". The opening and closing ceremonies of the festival held for the first time in the Asian Continent took place at the famous May Day Stadium in the DPRK and more than 4 billion people of over 150 countries watched and listened to the news of the festival during the eight days of the festival.

The DPRK has a lot of mountains. Mountains cover most of its territory.

It is the Taedong River that flows through Pyongyang. the capital of of the DPRK. It is 450.3 kilometres long and one of long rivers in Korea.
9. Is the DPRK the birthplace of Taekwon-Do? Yes.
Taekwon-Do is a type of the martial arts peculiar to Korea and a sport event showing the spirit of the Korean people.
In the DPRK there are the Taekwon-Do Hall equipped with everything needed for Taekwon-Do games and training and the Taekwon-Do Holy House showing the origin of Taekwon-Do and the history of its development and conducive to widely propagating and spreading Taekwon-Do.
It was proved by historical evidence that Pyongyang is the birthplace of Taekwon-Do and Taekwon-Do is recognized as one of the most superior and powerful martial arts in the world.
10. Is the DPRK the home of silk? Yes.
The DPRK is one of the homes of silk.
Korean ancestors domesticated wild silkworms quite long ago as far back to the period prior to the emergence of state.
A number of ancient relics and documents prove that silk was woven in Korea from very long ago.
In the DPRK, three molt silkworm was bred and silk woven with the cocoon thread reeled off by it from olden times.
The Korean silk with a long history is an excellent fabric well-known to the world as it is light and durable and has beautiful patterns and soft touch.
During the Koryo Dynasty, the Korean silk was exported to the neighbours and many far-off countries of Asia and it was known as "Koryo silk" to the world.
