The creation of the emblem of the Workers' Party of Korea started in 1946.
The Party emblem consists of a hammer, a sickle and a writing brush. The hammer symbolizes the working class, the sickle farmers and the writing brush intellectuals.
What is characteristic in the Party emblem is the writing brush.
It means that the intellectuals are a component of the driving force of the revolution along with the working class and farmers and their companion. The
writing brush is a little higher behind the hammer and the sickle, which means that the workers and farmers should also have deep knowledge and cultural attainments to make an active contribution
to the building of a prosperous and civilized independent sovereign
state.
The emblem implies that the WPK is the vanguard detachment of the working masses including workers, farmers and intellectuals firmly
united around the leader organizationally and ideologically and the revolutionary and mass party which has taken root deep among the people and struggles for their demand and interests.
The red flag of the WPK has a yellow Party emblem in its middle. It symbolizes the revolutionary and mass character, indomitable will and fighting spirit of the WPK which is guided by the great Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, carries forward the revolutionary tradition of Juche pure and clean and accomplishes the revolutionary cause of Juche by firmly rallying the entire people behind the Party.
