Eighth Congress of SWUK held


The Eighth Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea was held in Pyongyang on the 13th and the 14th.
The congress analyzed and summed up the work of the women's union during the period under review in an overall way and discussed and decided on the practical tasks and ways to further activate the work of the women's union in implementing the decisions of the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and fully discharge its mission and duty as an organization of ideological education.
Present at the congress were members of the 7th central guidance organ of the women's union and delegates elected at the women's union organizations at all levels.
Also on hand as observers were officials of the Party and armed forces organs, ministries and national agencies, and officials concerned.
The rostrum was taken by Jo Yong Won, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Jong Kyong Thaek and Ju Chang Il, Members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Secretaries of the Party Central Committee, members of the Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea, chairpersons of its provincial committees, exemplary women's union officials and members, and officials of the armed forces organs engaged in the women's union work.
When the congress was declared open, the national anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was played.
The congress elected the presidium and secretaries.
It brought up the following agenda items for discussion.
1. Review of Work of the Central Committee of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea
2. On revising the Rules of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea
3. Election of the Central Guidance Organ of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea
Jo Yong Won conveyed a congratulatory message of the Central Committee of the WPK to the participants in the Eighth Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea and the entire women's unionists.
