Dear Home
Pak Ji Song, Student of Pyongyang Middle School No. 1
It seems yesterday that I sat up all night for joy upon the news of my success in the examination for entrance to Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 last year and entered the gate of the school in a new uniform on April 1, the day that school starts. One year has already passed since then.
Whenever I feel an unusual pride of being a student of Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 which can be called the best of the prodigy-training bases in the country, I remember an unforgettable teacher.
She is Kim Ok at the Munsin Senior Middle School in Tongdaewon District who encouraged me to study at Pyongyang Middle School No. 1.
I lost my mother four years ago. Afterwards, my father also passed away.
I could not hold back tears at the thought that I became an orphan.
In his lifetime my father would tell me to study hard and enter Pyongyang Middle School No. 1. His words lingered in my ears.
Thinking of him, I wondered whether I could realize my dream by myself.
One day, my class teacher Kim Ok told me to live together at her house from that day.
It was surprising to become a member of her family, but I was touched with her humanity. She looked like my sister.
As a matter of fact, she had an agony of mind because of her father suffering from an incurable disease at that time. But she took utmost care of me without expressing her feeling.
She tried to teach much more, saying I can succeed for sure as I have high ability and that I should enter Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 as my father wished. And when I got excellent marks at school contests, she was so pleased that she patted me on the back. Saying that I should supplement nutrition to study harder, she paid great attention to foods for me.
Not only my teacher but also my schoolmates and their parents showed warm sincerity to me.
At last, a happy news came to the school that many students including me passed the examination for entrance to higher schools.
At the meeting of the whole school for congratulating the students on their entrance to higher schools, the principal said Pak Ji Song's parents would have been pleased if they had seen their son's growth and proposed congratulating me as my parents, brothers and sisters.
Receiving the warm applause at that time, I thought that the teachers are my parents, the friends are my brothers and sisters and the school is my dear home.
Even after I entered the new school, Teacher Kim Ok's love for me lasted.
Always worrying about my health at the change of season, she would send me padded clothes, sportswear, foodstuffs and the like and call on me as my mother to take part in parents' meetings or on sports days.
I felt the warm affection of consanguinity at Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 as well.

Very utmost is the sincerity shown to me by my class teacher Cha Ju Nam and my classmates.
Realizing my hope under such loving care, I keenly feel that Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 is also my dear home and that I am not an orphan as I live in the grateful socialist system.
