Among them are Director Pak Kwon Il and other employees of the Architectural Engineering Development Office of the Pyongyang Railway Building Management Station.
Although he is not a university graduate, Director Pak Kwon Il became an inventor with strenuous efforts. He led the employees well according to their abilities and qualifications to become inventors.
As a result, they won the top places at national sci-tech festivals and exhibitions and obtained three patents in three years.
The first patent was granted on the invention related to the production of Korean-style building parts using gypsum.
The gypsum products called green and health-protecting building materials are in wide use for architectural decoration throughout the world as they can improve the formative and artistic features and quality of structures while saving a lot of manpower, time and materials.
After setting a goal to make different kinds of good building parts with gypsum available in our country, Director Pak Kwon Il and other employees worked hard to establish the gypsum products manufacturing technique of Korean style and turn out various kinds of products such as gypsum decorative plate, gypsum skirting board and gypsum products for ceiling and pillar decoration. They also completed the construction method and the molding technique. The method of producing dome shell using gypsum was granted a patent.
Section Chief Yu Un Sun said that in those days all the employees grew to be artists, sculptors, designers and programmers and prepared themselves as talents possessed of two or three techniques, and continued:
"There were many difficulties and hardships in the course of producing gypsum building parts of Korean style. However, we achieved many successes. We felt that nothing is impossible if we are determined to do it. We believe that this confidence is our greatest success."
Later, they were granted another patent on the elevator control system by wireless communication and the manufacture of fixture board using far infrared radiator.
This development office has only 12 employees. This small unit has now become an indispensable unit doing a great job and a group of inventors respected by the people.
