Especially, it plays an important role in the research into and design for technical ships and in solving the scientific and technological problems for marine resources prospecting.
  Last year, too, researchers of the ship control laboratory developed a digital magnetic compass of important significance in ship operation and introduced it into reality.
  It was several years ago that the researchers set the goal of developing the digital magnetic compass for ships demanded by the reality with low costs.
  To attain the goal, they visited shipbuilding plants and fishery stations on the east and west coasts to hear opinions of ship engineers and fishermen on the spot and solve difficult technical problems one by one.
  Finally, they solved the technical problems for making voyage and direction judgment most correctly without any interference in reality.
  The digital magnetic compass developed by their painstaking efforts was highly estimated at the 38th National Sci-Tech Festival.
  The introduction of the digital magnetic compass reliably guarantees the safe voyage while giving greater benefits to the ship operation sector in various aspects as compared with the past.
  Deputy Dean for Science Mun Kyong Bom said the faculty is now intensifying the designing of ocean survey ship and tideland drillship and continued:
  "We will choose valuable research subjects including ship design and shipbuilding and seafloor exploration techniques, and develop and complete them in the future, contributing to the development of shipbuilding industry and ocean engineering of the country."
  Their speculation and efforts to attain the high goal of scientific research for the prosperity of the country will bear a good fruition.
