Man of Ability in Field of Hydraulic Machine Design
  Merited Scientist, Professor and Doctor Kim Jae Ung, Director of the Fluid Engineering Research Institute of the Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, made a contribution to the researches for developing hydraulic control technology and expanding the field of its application.



  He started his research into hydraulic control over 30 years ago when he was studying at the Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering.
  Fascinated by up-to-date machines changing anew day after day along with the development of the modern technology at that time, he worked hard to acquire both the hydraulic technology and the modern control theory. He was involved in a research group formed with teachers and researchers and made research for manufacturing a hydraulic component of a rotating object.
  Though he was busy with teaching after graduating from the university, he solved many technical problems arising in the designing and manufacture of hydraulic machines, making an active contribution to the economic development of the country and improvement of the people's living.
  More than 20 years ago, he took part in the research and manufacture of a shear spinning lathe, the first of its kind in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. At that time he studied and completed anew the design of hydraulic circuit of the spinning lathe called the essence of the machine-building industry, making a contribution to further raising the machine-building level of the country.
  When the research for manufacturing a large precision machine was under way, he completed a new hydraulic control system to guarantee the rigidity and ultraprecision of the machine even under the condition of general guide apparatus.
  With the creative spirit of designing everything perfectly to meet our actual conditions, he went to different factories and enterprises including Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex and solved many technical problems arising in the manufacture of hydraulic devices.
  Recently, he designed, manufactured and installed a new water turbine hydraulic governor at the construction site of Unit 1 of the Tanchon Power Station, laying a foundation to scientifically guarantee the safety of operation of the power station.
  Kim Jae Ung says:
  "We should not think of inventing a thing useless, saying we are doing something new and specific.
  So I introduced into researches optimum designs suited to the world trend of development and actual conditions of my country."
  Dr. Kim Jae Ung devoted himself to the development of the machine-building industry of the country, conceiving everything anew. Today, too, he is intensifying his research to attain a higher goal.
