Chonsangryolchabunyajido
Chonsangryolchabunyajido is an astronomical chart which was compiled in the late 14th century.

People attached importance to astronomy in the period of the Koguryo Dynasty, first feudal state of Korea which existed between 277 B.C. and A.D. 668. They made an astronomical chart with constellation carved on a stone between the late 5th century and the early 6th century on the basis of the data they got in the course of observing rare astronomical phenomena.
Chonsangryolchabunyajido is based on a replica of the astronomical chart carved on a stone, which was corrected a little according to the astronomical condition in the late 14th century.
Here is researcher Ri Il Sim at the History Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences.
"Chonsangryolchabunyajido was a very scientific and detailed astronomical chart at that time.
The astronomical chart has short explanations around the constellation as regards new correction made on that during the Koguryo Dynasty and its reason."
Chonsangryolchabunyajido enabled the then astronomical observers to correctly find out the positions of all stars while observing the directions and positions of the rise and set of the sun and the moon every day.
It is a precious cultural legacy showing the astronomical development of Korea in the middle ages, which is valuable in studying the history of astronomy.
